Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Forest
Start your adventure by catching a morning or afternoon flight from Entebbe or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip. If you have a morning flight, get up early, have breakfast, and head to the airstrip for check-in. For an afternoon flight, arrive at the airstrip at least an hour before departure. Be aware that flights may stop in Kisoro to drop off or pick up passengers, which could affect your schedule. The flight to Kihihi takes about 90 minutes. Upon arrival at Kihihi, you’ll be greeted by a driver who will transfer you to your lodge in Bwindi Forest. If you want to keep busy, consider taking part in optional activities. You might visit the local village or Bwindi Hospital to learn about the community’s daily life. Alternatively, enjoy a forest walk where you could spot primates such as vervet monkeys, chimpanzees, and olive baboons. You’ll stay at one of the following lodges: Gorilla Forest Lodge, Mahogany Springs, Silverback Lodge, or Buhoma Community Bandas. Relax and enjoy the natural surroundings before your gorilla trekking adventure the next day.
Day 2
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park
This day is the highlight of your trip: gorilla trekking. Prepare by packing a lunch, trekking gear, and other essentials. Head to the ranger station for a briefing by a Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger. They will explain the rules for gorilla trekking, including how to interact with the animals and what to bring. After the briefing, start your trek into the forest. Gorillas are mobile and may move from their previous location, so be prepared for a potentially challenging hike. The ranger guide will lead the group at a pace suitable for everyone, ensuring that everyone has a chance to enjoy the experience. When you finally encounter the gorillas, be respectful and keep your voices low. You will have one hour to observe and photograph the gorillas. Use a camera without a flash to avoid disturbing them. Watch as the gorilla family interacts and enjoy this unique experience. After your trek, return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the day’s adventure.
Day 3
Return Flight Home
After an amazing gorilla tracking experience, it’s time to fly back to Entebbe. Enjoy a final breakfast at your lodge before being transferred to Kihihi Airstrip. From there, catch your flight back to Entebbe and connect to your homeward journey.
