Join us for an exciting 3 days chimpanzee trekking adventure in Rwanda, centered around Nyungwe National Park in the southwestern part of the country. This beautiful park is a lush rainforest on the border with Burundi, home to a variety of wildlife, including chimpanzees, owl-faced monkeys, and colobus monkeys. One of the highlights of your trip will be the Canopy Walkway on the Igishigishigi Trail, where you’ll walk across a suspension bridge high above the forest. From there, you can enjoy stunning views of the valley and the surrounding forest. You will also explore the Kamiranzovu Marsh, known for its rich birdlife, delicate orchids, and a picturesque waterfall.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Your adventure begins as you arrive at Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali. Here, your friendly safari guide will meet you and start your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. On the way, you’ll visit Nyanza, the former royal residence of the Mwami (King), and the National Museum in Butare. The museum offers a deep dive into the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda and East Africa. After a delightful lunch, you will continue south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Once you arrive, you will be introduced to the park’s vibrant wildlife and breathtaking scenery. In the evening, you’ll check in at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel, where a delicious dinner will await you, marking the end of your first day.

Day 2
Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Start your day early with a hearty breakfast before heading into the forest. The morning trek will give you the best chance to spot chimpanzees, who are our closest living relatives, and see them in their natural habitat. Along the way, you might also spot other wildlife and a variety of birds that live in the park. After a morning of trekking, you will return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
In the afternoon, you’ll experience the Canopy Walkway. This elevated walkway will give you a new perspective on the park, allowing you to see a variety of animal species and enjoy stunning views of the forest and valley below. As the day comes to a close, you’ll head back to the lodge for a relaxing evening. Enjoy a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 3
Return to Kigali
After a delightful breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will check out of the lodge and start your drive back to Kigali. Your safari guide will ensure you arrive in time for your flight. As your adventure comes to an end, you’ll leave with wonderful memories of your chimpanzee trekking experience in Rwanda.
